Carlos Abella, secretary of the Tourism Council, reacted to the protests that took place this summer against mass tourism, recalling that it is the “first economic sector” of our country.
The secretary of the Tourist Office admitted that he believed that “we are not wrong” in this matter, stressing that “You don’t play with the things you eat.”
“The tourist is not responsible, we are all tourists”he stressed, indicating that we cannot commit the “hypocrisy” of saying that we do not want them to come but that we ourselves will then go to other destinations. “Let us not be hypocrites,” he asked.
In this way he defended that we are “misdirected the shot”, stressing that the tourist is the one who “feeds us.” Carlos Abella clarified that it is the public administrations that must do their homework so that the coexistence of the tourist with the resident “is pleasant and that these problems do not exist.”
“Complaints should not be directed against tourists who, in the end, are the ones who pay the debt of all Spaniards,” he concluded.
