We must prepare for war – EADaily, September 24, 2024 – Politics News, Belarus News

A national defence system has already been created in Belarus. This was announced by Alexander Lukashenko today, September 24, at a meeting during a visit to the 230th Obuz-Lesnovsky combined arms training ground.

“I have been saying this for a long time: we are a compact country with a small population. We are not Russia, especially China, nor India, nor the NATO bloc. Because of our economic capabilities, we cannot maintain the army necessary for war, so we must adapt.” – said.

According to him, the Armed Forces are called upon to defend the state, but if necessary, territorial defence and the people’s militia will be quickly organised. In this case, the number of defenders of the homeland will increase many times over.

“But for that we need unity and discipline in the country. We have this.” – Lukashenko stressed.

In this regard, the Belarusian leader instructed to update the tasks of territorial defence taking into account modern conditions of war.

“And the people’s militia, so that a person who does not join the army, but is good with weapons, can defend his home. We have a defined system. We are checking it: the Secretary of State (Security Council –EADaily) the task was set strictly so that everything was controlled and not for show, from the people’s militia to the Armed Forces. In other words, we have created a defense system for our country.” – the President of Belarus stressed.

He also recalled that he had previously given instructions to include in special registers citizens serving in special law enforcement units. Moreover, in the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, everyone who owns a weapon must be ready to defend the country if necessary.

“We will soon inspect all the units. Why do I insist on this: this special training cost us a lot. It costs a lot of money to train special forces like this… We have a lot of hunters, they must have their own unit with their own weapons. And we have to look at this: how it is created, what has been created. Where will we train better snipers than theirs? Therefore, this should also be used and treated professionally. And do not count, as in Soviet times: they will give us money, we will build a military town, we will recruit a group of people there, we will train them, as we usually do in the army, and then they will learn to fight. We will improve the economy in this way and our people will be poor. We cannot invest such huge amounts of money in such a training system.” – Lukashenko drew attention.

He also recalled his instructions to improve the training of military personnel within the army itself.

“So that there is no need to drill, so that the guys are physically prepared. First of all, there must be physical training, such as fire, tactics, and the study of modern types of weapons. That is, it is necessary to reorganize the army and bring it to an ideal state, provided that we have unity in society and discipline. After we finish the “showdown” in agriculture in connection with cleanliness and other issues, the winter period will come: the inspection will be the most severe in all areas. The military in general. Not only the army, but also the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Committee. Everyone has been assigned tasks, everyone knows everything, they must fulfill it,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

He also noted that Belarus needs to further strengthen its defence capability and readiness to confront the enemy in the event of military aggression.

“The old formula: if you want peace, prepare for war. I want to emphasize once again (although why should we justify ourselves to anyone here) that we are not going to fight, we do not want to fight… All this has already been said. They hear this, but they do their job: our opponents, our rivals. Those who are preparing against us, let us speak frankly, fight. Therefore, we must prepare for war. And God willing, this war will not happen. No matter how serious the situation around Belarus is, we have not yet seen any tendency towards war against us.” – the Belarusian leader said.

Alexander Lukashenko also recalled that, taking into account the experience of both the events on the front of the neighbouring state and the military conflicts of recent years in the world, the Belarusian army has already been reformed four times.

“This is probably the fifth time we have approached the modernization of our own Armed Forces,” – said.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of developing unmanned aerial vehicles, which can seriously affect the course of the war, but “without trained soldiers and reliable weapons, it will not be possible to defend oneself effectively.”

“So yes, drones are a serious innovation. Yes, they probably won’t turn back the war if it happens suddenly. But this will significantly affect the course of hostilities. Drones are a serious business. The business, as the military say, is very effective and profitable from the point of view of warfare. It’s terrible to say that, but still. Today, as I said, the warring parties do not skimp on drones to hunt down a person. Because it’s cheaper than training a fighter. Therefore, yes, drones.” – said the President of Belarus.

He also noted that in order to effectively counter enemy drones, it is also necessary to have modern technology – electronic warfare (EW) systems. According to him, Belarus must be prepared “to counter this infection.”

“We knew this for a long time. This is our Belarusian issue. And in the Soviet Union we were in the vanguard (positions- EADaily). This is very useful. Therefore, we must and can create the most modern systems to suppress unmanned aerial vehicles, and not only them. Much has been done, but much remains to be done,” – Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader also recalled another important area of modern warfare: counter-battery warfare.

“We, the military, have a new mandate. And not just a term. A new process in battle. You were attacked by artillery; you must instantly indicate the coordinates from where you were attacked, and respond and cover this artillery. You have to do it quickly. But to do so, you need to have the right systems. And this is even more evident in combat practice.” – the Belarusian leader said.

Recall that Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that NATO countries are plotting aggressive plans against Belarus. In this regard, the country decided to step up efforts to strengthen the state’s defense capability.
