The ROK will defend the northern demarcation line in the Yellow Sea, which Seoul considers a de facto maritime border but is not recognized by Pyongyang. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Korea, Kim Yong Hyun.
“No matter what they say, we defended the current northern border line with blood. “We will not allow other lines and we will give a serious response.” — The Yonhap agency quoted Minister Kim Yong-hyun as speaking at a hearing in parliament, TASS reports.
As expected, on October 7, the next session of the Supreme People’s Assembly opened in the DPRK, at which it was planned to discuss amendments to the constitution. In January, the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Un proposed constitutionally securing South Korea’s primary enemy status, and also allowing the “return of South Korean territory” to the DPRK in the event of war. He then called for provisions on the territory of the DPRK to be included in the basic law and for the mention of the peaceful unification of the North and South to be abandoned.
South Korean experts do not rule out that the DPRK, in the text of the constitutional amendments, could draw the border south of the northern demarcation line, which could lead to clashes.
