The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, had a telephone conversation this Tuesday with the next President of the United States, just one week after the North American elections. “I just spoke on the phone with Donald Trump to congratulate him on his electoral victory,” Sánchez said on his social networks.
Faced with the unknowns that arise due to the foreign or economic policy that Trump threatens to deploy, the Spanish president emphasizes that beyond the differences, the objective of his government is to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Spain and the United States are partners, friends and strategic allies. We maintain close bilateral relations. The United States and Europe must continue to strengthen transatlantic relations,” he posted on Twitter. “We will continue to work together to address global challenges,” he added.
In recent days, Trump has also spoken with several international leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
