Two foreigners, citizens of Georgia and Greece, were arrested in Warsaw on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack during a soccer match between the Croatian and Polish national teams.
A Greek citizen with a loaded pistol tried to mix with a group of Croatian fans heading to the Poland match in Warsaw. He also had a sword hidden in his belt buckle and was wearing a fake ID. Another man, a citizen of Georgia, was carrying another person’s driver’s license. Both were detained by the police. Investigators are looking into what his intentions were.
It all happened last week, when a match between the Polish and Croatian soccer teams was being played at the National Stadium in Warsaw. While patrolling, police noticed two men trying to mingle with a group of Croatian fans standing on the sidewalk. Seeing the police car, one of them began to flee, while the other pretended not to notice the police. The police decided to check the reason for his unusual behavior.
“It turned out that the first of them, a 35-year-old citizen of Georgia, had someone else’s driver’s license with him. The second man, a 40-year-old Greek citizen, was carrying a firearm with a loaded magazine in his bag. Police recovered a gun and ammunition. “Further investigation revealed that he also had a sword hidden in his belt buckle and was using a fake Greek ID card.” – says the information provided Bartlomiej Sniadaloy of the Warsaw Police Department.
Furthermore, it turned out that the weapon found was listed as lost in Italy. When the police asked him where he got it, he said he had found the gun five hours earlier in a shopping center in another area and was going to the nearest police station to return it.
