“We’re tired of not moving forward”

The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, urged the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezto “react” and move forward in solving the problems of the Valencian Community, which will be listed point by point during the meeting this Friday in Moncloa.

Before the meeting with the socialist leader, the “popular” leader wanted to emphasize that he will participate with your “propositional” and “practical” according to the quote, but at the same time he demanded that the central government take measures to resolve the situation experienced by the Valencian Community.

“We want to put progress on the table. We’re tired of not moving forward for too long with the government of Pedro Sánchez”, he said in statements from Brussels in which he indicated that the region was “impatient” with the “lack of attention” from the Executive.

Thus, Mazón regretted that Sánchez spent “a lot of time without reacting or addressing” the problems of the Valencian Community, a region that is “at the bottom” of public funding.

Among other demands, Mazón will demand from Sánchez that there are no “singular negotiations” regarding regional funding and that the State assumes the full costs of welcoming migrant minors in the Valencian Community. Thus, he will recall that this region is the community “most penalized” by underfinancing, which “has forced it to resort to debt to cover the financing gap necessary to pay for basic public services”.

At the same time, he participated in the Natural Resources Commission of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, which approved an opinion proposing “a source control system” at EU level which ensures that agricultural products imported from third countries meet the same standards in terms of health regulations.

In addition to demanding “an equalization of trade and phytosanitary policies” so that agreements with third countries “are fair and mutually beneficial”, Mazón defended the inclusion of mirror clauses in EU agreements.

He also insisted that the Spanish authorities be those who “propose” measures at European level and not just “obey” the measures that weigh on the agricultural sector. “We must put on the table that if we want ecology we need agriculture and this cannot be done by subjecting the sector to conditions of no costs, abandonment of land or unfair competition. This cannot be the case and the EU must change this,” he said.

Regarding the agreement with Mercosur, Mazón defended that all trade agreements include measures of “equity”, “proportionality” and avoid any loophole into which “unfair competition” infiltrates. “If rigor is maintained, we will be on the right track, otherwise,” he concluded.
