Defender Wesley Fofana is out of the French national team’s two matches in the Nations League – against Israel on Thursday and against Italy on Sunday –, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Monday, November 11.
The Chelsea player, 23 years old and selected with the ‘blues’, “feel recurring pain in the left knee”after the Premier League match against Arsenal on November 10. He had already been excused from the September meeting, for “follow a treatment protocol, linked to the injuries that kept him off the field for a long time”the FFF specified at that time.
Wesley Fofana suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee before the start of the 2023-2024 season, not playing a single match with the France team throughout last season.
He was replaced on coach Didier Deschamps’ list by Benjamin Pavard. An opportunity for the Inter Milan defender, 28 years old and 54 caps, to regain his health with the blues. The 2018 world champion did not play a single minute during this summer’s European Championship in Germany and was not called up for the September and October rallies.
