The next edition of the column “Our Heritage” was prepared within the framework of the Chronicle of Western Azerbaijan project, with the presentation of Dr. Elchin Alibeyli, Ph.D. in Art Studies.
Oku.Az reports that in the issue “The names of 24 Oghuz tribes existed in the settlements of Western Azerbaijan”, Professor Ibrahim Bayramov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, explains the true meaning of toponyms in Western Azerbaijan.
According to him, the toponyms of Western Azerbaijan are related to the Turkic ones: “In Western Azerbaijan there were both Oghuz and Kipchak toponyms. Armenians preserved Persian and Arabic toponyms and falsified the Turkic ones. This is in Azerbaijan. Turkic toponyms in this area were recorded 1300 years ago. Western Azerbaijan is the historical land of Azerbaijan.”
A famous scientist pointed out that toponyms prove that Western Azerbaijan is the historical abode of ancient Turkic tribes: Altuntakht, mentioned in “Kitabi-Dade Gorgud”, is located on the bank of the Goycha. Salur Kazan freed his mother from Shokli Malik and built a house in Altuntakht. The first place of residence of the Oguz was the vicinity of Goyche. Gyumri reflects the name of the Kimmerian Turkic tribe. The name of the Sheki village in Karakilsa comes from the Sak Turkic tribe. The Ozanlar Turkic tribe settled in the Akta region. Zangi Turkic tribes live in Zangezur, Zangibasar and Zangis. Shoreyel comes from the name of the Shirak/Chirag Turkic tribe. Derachichek district was the home of the Oguz tribes covering a large area. The Armenians adopted the word “car”, meaning ravine, in the form of “dzor”. The meaning of the name of the village of Nuvedi means “the edge of the core-ravine”.
He said that the names of all 24 Oghuz tribes exist in the settlements of Western Azerbaijan.
In the end, I. Bayramov clarified three important factors for the study of the area, as well as the name of the settlement, settlements with the name of Kipchak throughout Western Azerbaijan and other issues, and expressed interesting ideas and facts.
In general, the aim of the project “Our Heritage” is to preserve, revive and promote our heritage, which is disappearing in the regions and villages of Western Azerbaijan, as well as to investigate the great Turkic traces with the testimonies and conversations of villagers, historians, ethnologists, ethnographers, folklorists.
It should be recalled that the aim of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project is to preserve and promote the name of our historical lands, as well as to learn about the deportation of Azerbaijanis by Armenians, the toponyms that existed in these territories, but their names. Countless examples of underground and surface material culture have been erased: ancient settlements, necropolises, burial mounds, remains of a castle, palace and fortification, caravansary, bridges, burial chests, stone crosses, statues of horses and rams, temples, churches. Mosques, pyres and hearths are revealed, and the facts confirming that the area is a pure Oghuz-Turk settlement are communicated to the world community.
Also the president Ilham Aliyev Regarding Western Azerbaijan, he said: “The map of the beginning of the 20th century once again shows that Western Azerbaijan is the historical land of Azerbaijan, the names of cities and villages are of Azerbaijani origin, and we know very well that Azerbaijani people have lived on the territory of present-day Armenia throughout history. Now the main task is to make the world community aware of this as well,” – according to him, it is about promoting the duties arising from the Concept of Return of the Western Azerbaijani Community developed by him.
It also aims to enlighten the thoughts of historians and researchers about West Azerbaijan and the life stories of people who were deported.
