West Azerbaijan Chronicle: “Karbalai also fought against the Armenians together with Abbasgulu Bey”

The next programme in the West Azerbaijan Chronicle project was aired today.

The interviewer of journalist Rufik Ismayilov was the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Western Azerbaijan Community, Honorable Scientist Vagif Shadlinski.

He spoke about the generation of Shadlinski nobles, who left valuable traces in the history of Azerbaijan and rendered great services in the field of culture, education and upbringing. He said that this generation is one of the most famous lineages of the Vedi region in Western Azerbaijan. According to the interviewer, this generation with a perfect genealogy gave Azerbaijan outstanding intellectuals and heroes. Among them, the activities of Aslan Sultan Shadlinski, Nasrulla bey Shadlinski, Abbasgulu bey Shadlinski, Bilas Shadlinski, Vagif Shadlinski and others are rich in pages that can serve as an example for future generations. The distinguished scientist stated with concrete facts that the Shadli tribe migrated from time to time to Iran, Turkey, Russia and Iraq, settled in different regions of present-day Azerbaijan and called that settlement exactly Shadli.

V. Shadlinski, who gave information about his ancestral home, said that Azerbaijanis lived in all villages except for two mixed villages in the Vedi basin. According to him, at the beginning of the last century, Armenians repeatedly attacked our compatriots in Western Azerbaijan and expelled Azerbaijanis from their historical lands. At that time, Abbasgulu Bey Shadlinski, the true national hero of the Shadlinski family, and the brave sons who gathered around him, saved the Vedi community from death. More than fifty thousand Azerbaijanis were relocated to the territory of Iran under the leadership of Abbasgulu Bey and were protected. The interviewer stressed that if it were not for the resistance group led by Abbasgulu in those years, Armenians would have committed larger massacres in Goycha, Nakhchivan and Karabakh.

Commenting on the creation of the character of Abbasgulu bey Shadlinski in the novel “Snowy Pass” by writer Farman Karimzade and the film based on it, “The Last Pass”, V. Shadlinski said that some of the events in the film are true. some are not. He said that Karbalai also fought against the Armenians together with Abbasgulu Bey.

V. Shadlinski drew attention to the fact that in 1948-1953 he and his family were deported from the Vedi region of Western Azerbaijan, traveled for 11 days in a wooden cart, settled on the territory of the present Shamkir region and expressed the sufferings of our compatriots in those years. He noted that even before deportation, Armenians brought to Western Azerbaijan from foreign countries were accommodated in houses of Azerbaijanis. After deportation, they took possession of such houses.

Speaking about the activities of the Council of Elders of the West Azerbaijani community, V. Shadlinski stressed that they often meet with our compatriots, including young people. He said that such meetings are important for preserving historical memory and passing it on to future generations. In conclusion, the honoured scientist noted that every compatriot has the right and right to return to West Azerbaijan and live there.

It should be recalled that the aim of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project is to preserve and promote the name of our historical lands, as well as the deportation of Azerbaijanis by Armenians, toponyms that existed in those territories, but their names have been erased, and countless examples of underground and surface material culture: ancient settlements, necropolises, mounds, remains of a castle, palace and fortification, caravanserai, bridges, burial chests, stone crosses, statues of horses and rams, temples, churches, mosques, pyres and homes are revealed, and the facts confirming that the area is a pure Oghuz-Turk settlement are brought to the world community.

Also the president Ilham Aliyev Regarding Western Azerbaijan, he said: “The map of the beginning of the 20th century once again shows that Western Azerbaijan is the historical land of Azerbaijan, the names of cities and villages are of Azerbaijani origin, and we know very well that Azerbaijani people have lived on the territory of present-day Armenia throughout history. Now the main task is to make the world community aware of this as well,” – according to him, it is about promoting the duties arising from the Concept of Return developed by the Western Azerbaijani Community.

It also aims to enlighten the thoughts of historians and researchers about West Azerbaijan and the life stories of people who were deported.
