West Azerbaijan Chronicle: “Tava-tepe” is an area with sacred meanings”

As part of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project, Dr. of Art Studies Elchin Alibeyli broadcast the program “Evidence proving the migration of Caucasian Turks to Altai in the second millennium BC.”

The program discussed excavations carried out by Armenian archaeologists in the territory of Western Azerbaijan, especially in the Goycha-Shamshaddil regions, and samples found in “Tava-tepe”.

Traces of the great Turkic culture have been revealed during excavations in the territory of Western Azerbaijan.

“The crossing point of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus is an area with sacred significance, along with the military strategic position of “Tava-tepe”, which is located on the border of large areas of pastures and winter areas. The samples found in “Tava-tepe” reveal the identity, everyday life, faith and give a reason to precisely define their customs.”

Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor Bakhtiyar Jalilov, examining the historical facts, stated that the Tava-tepe monument had been known to science since about 2005:

“However, no archaeological excavations have been carried out in the area so far, we have only provided some preliminary information based on surface materials. “Tava-tepe” is located in a very strategic place. It is the place where the Greater Caucasus and the Lesser Caucasus countries are closest to each other.”

According to him, Turkic tribes, carriers of the Khojaly-Gadabey culture, settled in Western Azerbaijan:

“This is also evidenced by the Urartian inscriptions. During the Kura-Araz culture, the bearers of this culture settled very densely on the territory of Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus. Dozens, maybe hundreds of monuments have been studied so far. The Urartians were a very powerful state, but they could not move to Azerbaijan because here the strong Khojaly-Gadabey tribes blocked them and drove them back. At that time, the most suitable place was “Tava-tepe”. It was possible to move very easily to the south, north and east of the South Caucasus.

In the plot, the historian expressed more interesting facts and opinions about “Tava-tepe” and other monuments.

It should be recalled that the aim of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project is to preserve and promote the name of our historical lands, as well as to learn about the deportation of Azerbaijanis by Armenians, the toponyms that existed in these territories, but their names. Countless examples of underground and surface material culture have been erased: ancient settlements, necropolises, burial mounds, remains of a castle, palace and fortification, caravansary, bridges, burial chests, stone crosses, statues of horses and rams, temples, churches. Mosques, pyres and hearths are revealed, and the facts confirming that the area is a pure Oghuz-Turk settlement are communicated to the world community.

Also the president Ilham Aliyev Regarding Western Azerbaijan, he said: “The map of the beginning of the 20th century once again shows that Western Azerbaijan is the historical land of Azerbaijan, the names of cities and villages are of Azerbaijani origin, and we know very well that Azerbaijani people have lived on the territory of present-day Armenia throughout history. Now the main task is to make the world community aware of this as well,” – according to him, it is about promoting the duties arising from the Concept of Return of the Western Azerbaijani Community developed by him.

It also aims to enlighten the thoughts of historians and researchers about West Azerbaijan and the life stories of people who were deported.
