West Nile virus adds eight new cases and reaches three more cities in Seville

The Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Government of Andalusia, through the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation, has detected Eight new cases of West Nile virus in the province of Seville.

Beyond those affected, the Culex mosquitotransmitter of the disease, circulates through Almensilla, Bollullos de la Mitación, Gelves, Los Palacios and Villafranca and Villamanrique de la Condesa. The West Nile virus has been detected in the catches made in these municipalities of Seville.

The data shows that the highest risk levels are in the province of Seville. However, the virus has also been located in traps in the towns of Barbate, Benalup-Casas Viejas and Tarifa, in Cádiz, as well as in Malaga.

In parallel, the Doñana Biological Station of the CSIC has located the Virus in mosquitoes captured in rural areas such as those of Dehesa de Abajo and Pinares de Colina. Also in Puebla del Río and Palomares del Río.

On four horses

In the meantime, the Mosquito Control Service of the Provincial Council of Huelva has detected positive results in mosquitoes captured in the Marismas de l’Odiel Natural Park. Currently, the highest population densities of female mosquitoes, those that transmit the virus, are concentrated in Puebla del Riomainly in rural areas. It is at Grade IV (over a thousand mosquitoes). On the other hand, Los Palacios and Villafranca are at Grade III (between 500 and 1000).
