The Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Government of Andalusia, through the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation, has detected Eight new cases of West Nile virus in the province of Seville.
For its part, in the weekly update published, there are no new deaths, so the number remains at five. death of this disease so far in 2024. All were from Seville, three from Coria del Río, one from La Puebla del Río and another from Dos Hermanas.
Most of the eight new cases of West Nile virus were recorded in municipalities with a history of contagion. However, they are reported for the first time in Gelves, Guillena and San Juan de AznalfaracheThe municipalities of the latter two cities had previously reported the infections.
In addition, two other people have been affected by the disease Coria del Riotwo more in Utrera and one in Dos Hermanas. Five of the eight files have already been released.
So, they have already signed up 61 cases in Andalusia So far in 2024, 60 in the province of Seville. Apart from this, only one case has been reported in Campofrío (Huelva).
Beyond those affected, the Culex mosquitotransmitter of the disease, circulates through Almensilla, Bollullos de la Mitación, Gelves, Los Palacios and Villafranca and Villamanrique de la Condesa. The West Nile virus has been detected in the catches made in these municipalities of Seville.
The data shows that the highest risk levels are in the province of Seville. However, the virus has also been located in traps in the towns of Barbate, Benalup-Casas Viejas and Tarifa, in Cádiz, as well as in Malaga.
In parallel, the Doñana Biological Station of the CSIC has located the Virus in mosquitoes captured in rural areas such as those of Dehesa de Abajo and Pinares de Colina. Also in Puebla del Río and Palomares del Río.
On four horses
In the meantime, the Mosquito Control Service of the Provincial Council of Huelva has detected positive results in mosquitoes captured in the Marismas de l’Odiel Natural Park. They are also carriers of the virus four horsesone from Ubrique (Cádiz) and the rest in the Sevillian municipalities of Constantina, El Coronil and Palomares del Río.
Currently, the highest population densities of female mosquitoes, those that transmit the virus, are concentrated in Puebla del Riomainly in rural areas. It is at Grade IV (over a thousand mosquitoes). On the other hand, Los Palacios and Villafranca are at Grade III (between 500 and 1000).
While they remain in the Second year (between 100 and 500) in Las Cabezas de San Juan and Villamanrique de la Condesa (Seville), Benalup-Casas Viejas and Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Montalbán (Córdoba).

The new weekly update arrives on the same day as Juanma Moreno said that the Andalusian Government wants to intensify prevention work in the coming weeks, until 2025.
