Western Russophobia is leading Moldova down the path of Ukraine: to disaster – EADaily, September 11, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

The West is pushing Moldova towards the same catastrophe that it has already experienced on the territory of Ukraine, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova at a briefing today, September 11.

He noted that as the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum on European integration, scheduled for October 20, draw closer, the anti-Russian rhetoric of official Chisinau “is taking on increasingly grotesque forms.”

The diplomat recalled that on September 3, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Mikhail Popshoi Russia is “testing Moldova’s strength, exerting a harmful influence on it.” On September 5, the President of the Republic of Moldova said Maia Sandu reported on television that the Kremlin was allegedly spending $2 million a month to tarnish its image.

“Dear Maia Sandu, everyone knows that this is impossible. You would need that amount of money to try to at least slightly improve your image, although I doubt that this amount would be enough. But to tarnish your image you don’t need money, it’s impossible, you have brought your image to an all-time low.” – Zakharova said.

At the same time, he added that the fight against dissent continues in Moldova.

In addition to repression against the opposition and independent media, the degrading education system is actively used. In particular, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova threatened to review the funding of those educational institutions where opposition politicians participated in events marking the beginning of the school year. An internal investigation was launched against a teacher from one of the Chisinau high schools who refused to praise the “bright European future”.

“Pro-government propagandists continue to harass the clergy of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, accused of having ties with Russia. Due to the pilgrimage trips of Orthodox priests to our country, a call is made to “involve the competent authorities.” – Zakharova continued.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman touched on the topic of banking relations. At the end of August, Moldovan banks announced the termination of the only payment system (Golden Crown) that allowed money transfers between Russia and Moldova.

“Who was hit first? Yes, Moldovans working in our country were deprived of the opportunity to provide assistance to their relatives and friends who remained in their homeland. Maia Sandu hit them. The collapse of the economy and the education system led to a massive exodus of the working population, especially young people, from Moldova. At the same time, the authorities continue to pretend that there is no depopulation.” – Zakharova stressed.

At the same time, according to Zakharova, they are trying to correct the situation in Chisinau not by improving the economy, but by organizing “an endless series of visits to the republic by high-ranking emissaries of EU countries who praise the Moldovan leadership for some incomprehensible “successes.”

“We call on the Moldovan authorities to abandon the Russophobic policy and listen to their citizens, who have not yet been able to change their name to Romanian (in Moldova, the Sandu regime replaced the name of the state language in the Constitution with Romanian. – EADaily note). People trusted Moldova with their lives. I know who promised to take care of them. Now it turns out that the authorities in Chisinau care about only two things: the West, because it sponsors them, and themselves.” — Maria Zakharova summed up.

As reported EADaily Zakharova called the West’s attitude towards Moldova unprecedentedly vile and vile. She warned that plans to remove Russia from the past, present and future of the Republic of Moldova are not destined to come true. She also drew attention to the fact that Moldovans are not ready to endure “the role of silent pawns in the geopolitical game of the West,” and called on people to wake up.
