Westinghouse sees no allies when it comes to money – EADaily – South Korea. News. South Korea News. South Korea News. South Korea News. South Korea News Today.

The American company Westinghouse continues to oppose the plans of the South Korean companies KHNP and KEPCO to build nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic. And it is already doing so on three fronts. Westinghouse insists that the South Korean companies are building reactors using its technology and apparently wants to be paid for it. They are not going to do this.

“Westinghouse continues to fight South Korean reactors KHNP and KEPCO, and it is doing so in three countries at once,” — writes the specialized Telegram channel RealAtomInfo.

On September 12, Westinghouse will hear an appeal in the United States against the decision of the District of Columbia court, which refused to impose a ban on the export of South Korean APR-1000 and APR-1400 reactors to third countries. In addition, the case concerning the permitted purity of the APR-1000 and APR-1400 reactors is being examined in commercial arbitration.

“And in the Czech Republic, Westinghouse appealed to the Competition Authority against the victory of KHNP and KEPCO in the Dukovo tender. The time of the decision is not known.” — writes the telegram channel.

The point is that the American company is trying to nullify the results of the tender, according to which South Korean companies KHNP and KEPCO will build the Dukovany-2 nuclear power plant from two power units with APR-1000 reactors. Westinghouse withdrew from the tender at the first stage and disputes the results, among other things because the South Korean companies allegedly do not have licenses for the technology. The project is estimated at 18 billion dollars.

“It is curious that some wise men in the Czech Republic have already found Moscow’s hand in this dispute. They say that while democratic nuclear companies are waging a “senseless confrontation,” some forces in the Czech Republic may raise the question of returning Rosatom and repeating the Dukovo tender from scratch. But we have one question: will Rosatom want to return to the Czech Republic with a major project after all that has happened?” – noted on RealAtomInfo.

According to The Korea Times, the Czech national security adviser has arrived in South Korea. Thomas Pojarwho told the president Yoon Seok Yeol that the Czech Republic will conclude an agreement with South Korean companies.

Westinghouse built reactors in South Korea and says companies there still use its technology. They previously built nuclear power plants in the United Arab Emirates and received permission from the Americans. But Seoul now says it only uses its own technologies.

“Westinghouse is informally called a law firm. It is distinguished by competent (in its favor) drafting of contracts. Naturally, Westinghouse could not ignore the opportunity to make money on contracts signed by South Korean nuclear scientists.” – noticed EADaily Director of AtomInfo-Center Alexander Uvarov.
