Tangerine is one of the main attributes of the New Year. However, due to the large number of different varieties, you cannot always choose the tastiest and best quality fruit.
Oku.Az Russian expert, nutritionist and nutritionist Irina Pisareva spoke with the publication “Vechernya Moskva” about the benefits of tangerines and points to consider when choosing.
According to Irina Pisareva, in addition to being tasty, tangerines also have many useful properties.
“Tangerines contain a large amount of citric acid, which neutralizes harmful compounds and is considered a natural antidote. Therefore, tangerines do not contain nitrates,” the expert emphasized.
This fruit contains many vitamins and minerals.
According to the nutritionist, tangerines contain high amounts of vitamin C, specifically ascorbic acid. In addition, it contains vitamins of group B and K, vitamins D and P. In addition, tangerine contains useful minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. The most interesting thing is that it has a natural antidepressant effect.
However, the doctor warned that despite all its benefits, tangerine can be dangerous for people suffering from certain diseases.
“People with acute nephritis, hepatitis, cholecystitis and stomach ulcers should avoid eating tangerines. In addition, as it contains a lot of sugar, this fruit can also harm people with diabetes. It is not recommended to eat more than 5-6 fruits a day” Pisareva added.
The expert also highlighted the points to take into account when choosing a tangerine:
“You have to pay attention to the integrity of the fruit, it should not be damaged. Depending on the variety, tangerines can be firm or soft.”
He mentioned in particular the advantages of the “Clementine” variety:
“Tangerines of this variety are firmer to the touch and have the highest amount of ascorbic acid. That is why I recommend buying the clementine variety,” says Pisareva.
