Daniel Sancho, son of the famous Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho, was sentenced to life imprisonment in Thailand for the murder of Edwin Arrieta, which occurred a year ago. In recent statements, De Vicente said that “if an agreement had been reached”Sancho’s sentence could have been much lower. “What a famous Thai criminal lawyer who assists Spaniards detained in Thailand asked him to do was to reach an agreement. If that path had been chosen from the beginning, acknowledging the facts, asking for forgiveness and offering compensation, the situation would have been very different,” he explained.
De Vicente added that the strategy of seeking full absolution, in his view, was unachievable from the start“Even today, at the press conference, the prosecution itself indicated that if a deal had been offered, it could have reduced the charge to manslaughter,” the lawyer said.
This legal approach, according to the expert, could have led to a much less severe sentence, possibly avoid life in prison which Sancho now faces.
