Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he expects a new US approach to the Middle East under President Donald Trump, although some of his statements raise concerns. This was reported on Wednesday by the Turkish television network NTV.
“It is too early to make final assessments, but we hope that Trump will take different measures in the region, as we are alarmed by the reports that come from time to time,” Erdogan told reporters on the return flight from Baku.
Erdogan also commented on Türkiye’s decision to stop all trade with Israel, made in May this year. According to him, Ankara currently has no trade ties with Israel and Türkiye sees no need to develop them.
Previously, Kursor wrote that Türkiye accused Israel of preparing for an “invasion” of the country. Turkish Defense Minister Yashar Golar made a strong statement accusing Israel of planning an attack on Turkey, which he claims could lead to World War III. “There is a very high probability that Israel will attack us, and this threat is real,” Golar said, highlighting that an attack could happen at any time.
These comments follow Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who in early October also expressed concern about the possible expansion of Israeli operations beyond the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, which he believes could affect Turkish territory. Erdogan accused Israel of aggression and said the “Jewish state” was supposedly seeking to seize new territories in line with the idea of a “promised land.”
