Kubra Maharramova writes…
We have been organizing a prestigious event for several days. Every day we see citizens of foreign countries on the streets of Baku and hear their noisy conversations.
There is no press in the world that does not write, mention or publish an article about this event. For better or worse…
Today is the eighth day of the known event. Azerbaijan is also doing everything possible to ensure that COP29 is not just any event, but an outcome. That a roadmap be defined to at least resolve the problems that have been debated for years. We leave that aside.
So what did COP29 give us common people?
First of all, sending vacations to schools and universities has greatly reduced the human load in Baku. We realized that Baku is not a bad place to live if we move schools and other educational institutions outside the city. There is space and air to breathe.
During these days, state institutions also provided services to the population in a strengthened work modality.
Based on the events that happened to the friend, we can say that all institutions in Baku worked like clockwork during these 8 days. Whether it’s healthcare or public services. Even the district head came to the scene with a call and did his best to resolve the issue in a short period of time. For a moment people thought we were in Sweden.
This way they can work whenever they want. God is above man and the weather did not make us feel embarrassed in front of the guests.
Although we did not drown in the floods during the COP, we witnessed large numbers of people drowning in the darkness of ignorance.
The famous model of the “whale” allowed some of our people to indulge in any possible fantasy and euphoria (both awake and drowsy). We listen to the most incredible ideas and opinions. In the “WhatsApp” groups, black people, guys from “Instagram” and young people from “TikTok” came forward and expressed their “valuable and enlightened” opinions on this topic and revealed their “intellectual positions.”
For a person who does not know the geography of the country in which he lives, he is certain that each event will be a “miracle.” At least in the lower class we were taught that the Caspian Sea is closed and is the largest lake. But some of my classmates or my elders (graduates of the Soviet educational system) decided that this “whale” first lived in a pond in some official’s garden and then grew up. The official also saw that he could not store or deliver the meat, so he released it into the Caspian Sea at night. He is also a domestic “whale”, he could not stand up in the poor wilderness and threw himself on the shore.
The discussion about these and worse rumors revealed what fantasy the vast majority of a society has. At the moment, I knew for sure that the “Dada-Gorgud” saga has more than 12 durations, it just got lost in the middle. Because the epic of a nation with such potential should have lasted at least 112 years. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, we held COP29 in Baku to save lives from the problems caused by climate change in the world. Because Azerbaijan wants to be recognized in the world as an informed, educated, protective and revitalizing country, as it is now.
But the inhabitants of dark thoughts do not want to come to light. It’s very stimulating to know how to get along with those people.
Whether it is an official (some) or an ordinary citizen (some), what is happening is nothing more than theater. Who opens his mouth to say that “we would sit normally if only one COP had ended.” Hello sister, why are we sitting? How long can you sit? If you had read a book or two, you would have known that the whale is a model. You knew it was a human message. “Captain Boomer Collective” has found this whale under its arm and since 2008 has toured large cities such as London, Paris, Warsaw, Adelaide and Madrid. It seems that if we continue treating nature like this, this will be the end of us.
Some people still do not understand that trees should not be cut down. Some still do not understand that we will leave this world to our children. Some people still think that adding the main house and the car is enough.
Some still do not understand that protecting nature and the climate is important for each of us. But who are you telling? At night they cut down the trees so we can build a “facility” here.
Some people still do not understand that household waste cannot be thrown away, burned or thrown from the balcony into the street.
But everyone wants to live in Norway, Sweden, Finland. The question is what kind of citizen? With what thought?
For some, throwing a cigarette butt out the car window is normal, even the norm. It’s like these people have their own society. You say a word and you see that he doesn’t understand it.
We all want to eat natural agricultural products. But we don’t allow farmers to work. When a farmer takes the products he got in the town to the city and sells them, he skins him fifty times. You also agree with what is said so that your product does not spoil. The price rises, but neither the farmer nor the buyer wins. Thus, every day another peasant arrives in Baku to sell his land at a low price. And thus, generations of towns are abandoned. Nature loses its balance.
When you see and understand all this, when you understand the result, when you see the end, you want to hug the whale on Baku Boulevard and cry. You want to say: “oh whale, what’s wrong with you? You will be gone in three to five days, how will we live in this calamity?”
