What “healthy” drinks harm teeth? – Recommendations from a British doctor.

Kombucha, lemon water, diet soda, and mineral water can damage tooth enamel due to their high acidity.

Oku.AzAccording to the “Daily Mail”, it was reported by the prominent London dentist, former president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, James Gulnik.

The expert urged caution when using drinks that are believed to improve the functioning of the digestive system: lemon water and apple cider vinegar. According to the dentist, these drinks are acidic enough to “soften” the enamel of your teeth, so it is best to drink them through a straw.

Carbonated mineral water and sweet carbonated drinks can also be dangerous. Additionally, drinks containing sugar and artificial sweeteners can harm the health and appearance of your teeth. According to the doctor, many carbonated drinks have a pH (hydrogen value or acidity level) no higher than 5.5.

“Some have a pH of 2 or 3. This extreme acidity ‘eats away’ at the teeth,” Gulnik warned.

Considered a beneficial drink for improving the gut microbiome, kombucha (tea mushroom) can also be very acidic. The dentist advises that when buying kombucha in the store, pay attention to the pH level indicated on the packaging. Additionally, the doctor recommended drinking high-sugar versions of the drink.
