Donald Trump returns to the White House

What do you do when the population of your country, between madness, unconsciousness or despair, decides to vote for a fanatic who promises to fix everything quickly? It’s already happened. Several candidates from what they call the extreme right, which is only a radical return to the old privileges of an exclusive ruling elite, have succeeded either in influencing governments, or even in obtaining the head of the ‘State.

And what happened in these countries? Not a bit. Russia has ceased to be a democracy, making it impossible for anyone other than Putin and his associates to come to power. In the United States, Trump’s previous term ended with a horde of attacks on Parliament that left several people dead, and the electorate is now rewarding his achievement. Argentina remains mired in calamity despite the “chainsaw” which only obscures certain economic indicators. In El Salvador, the country is full of criminal persecution without guarantees. It doesn’t matter whether the dictatorship is right-wing or left-wing. In Venezuela there have been a very large number of exiles, which clearly shows that freedom is non-existent there. Democracy has enemies on its left and on its right. Stalin was no better than Hitler.

He modus operandi of all these tyrants is relatively simple, and can be explained in two steps: 1. Inspiring in the population contempt for democratic institutions and anyone who is not the Beloved Leader; 2. ensure support for the armed forces.

The goal is always the same: to rule the country in favor of his personal economic interests, stealing public money under any pretext and abolishing taxes with the support of some big businessmen. They thus avoid the redistribution of wealth that they wish to monopolize, to the detriment of a population that they will try to deceive with propaganda, sometimes with fictitious jobs and frequently by promising “citizen security”. This population, ultimately, will transform into a huge mass of highly monitored vassals who will almost never stop being vassals. Today, it is very difficult to overthrow a tyrant from power. The revolution is no longer carried out with sticks, stones, fires and short weapons. Furthermore, technology makes it too easy for an authoritarian leader to control us in every aspect of our lives, even going so far as to induce false happiness through his false messages on networks and in all media. Getting out of this situation is almost impossible. Getting there is extremely simple.

Those who voted for Hitler in 1932 wanted change, and they got it. Just like the Russians when they killed the Tsar and his entire family. The first went from a failed democracy to a dictatorship. The latter passed from one dictatorship to another, since they did not have the luck that the English and the French ended up having decades after their respective royal beheadings (1649 and 1793). And the “good guys” don’t always win, that is, those who want freedom and prosperity distributed to their people. A revolution, even through the ballot box, opens the way to a radical change, which does not always have to be towards freedom, but towards a false “freedom” that dictators proclaim loud and clear, and which is, as always, the extermination by different means. of those who do not think like them.

The policies of too many democratic countries expose themselves to immense irresponsibility by not preventing the emergence of these satraps in very diverse ways – cultural, educational, administrative and judicial. But if the population votes for them, should we stay in the country to face it or should we flee? We cannot stay in opulent dictatorships while trying to change them, because we would end up losing our lives for nothing. Nor in impoverished dictatorships, because sometimes their people are so accustomed to poverty that they no longer even consider fighting against it. And without the people, rebellion is impossible.

What to do then? We don’t all belong in Iceland, Finland or New Zealand. Why not make our countries look like these? The only key is the popular fight against corruption. Only an uncorrupted people reject the misdeeds of their citizens, not just politicians. It is traditional or sometimes corrupt people who vote for dictators. If you want to know who voted for Hitler, watch the final scenes of ‘M., a city like a Mörder’by Fritz Lang (1930). You will see that it is not even necessary for them to understand the German language. These images will bring back very current memories.
