What lies ahead for southern Lebanon?

Amid increased airstrikes in Lebanon and the early morning shelling of Gush Dan, the Israeli military is considering expanding its military operations against Hezbollah, including a possible ground offensive in southern Lebanon.

This strategy is aimed at neutralizing threats to Israel’s internal security, as Alexey Zheleznov writes on his Telegram channel.

Northern Command is actively preparing ground forces for a possible invasion. In particular, the 7th Armored Brigade completed a large-scale exercise simulating combat operations in Lebanon, with an emphasis on adapting tactics different from those used in Gaza. The 179th, 646th, and 9th Brigades also participated in the exercises.

The 98th Commando Division will soon begin additional training in the north of the country. In recent days, the IDF has significantly stepped up attacks on Hezbollah weapons storage facilities, focusing on cruise missiles and various types of ammunition.

General Ori Gordin stressed that the southern regions of Lebanon have effectively become firing bases, where up to 100 missiles can be stored in civilian homes. One of the IDF’s key goals is to reduce Hezbollah’s military capabilities. The Israeli military estimates that more than half a million Lebanese have been forced to flee their homes due to the intense attacks, and the IDF continues to urge them not to return to the danger zones.

Among the successes of the northern command is the discovery and destruction of most of Hezbollah’s missile launchers hidden in the valleys of southern Lebanon. The new tactics developed by the fire control center allowed the destruction of the infrastructure that Hezbollah had built up over more than 15 years.

IDF fire control units work closely with AMAN intelligence and the Air Force, targeting high-value targets including elite Radwan forces, missiles of various ranges, as well as mobile terrorist groups and ammunition depots.
