The Armed Forces of Ukraine use tactics in the Kursk region that are similar to the actions of partisan detachments, allowing them to effectively resist superior enemy forces.
Veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, reserve major Alexey Getman, spoke about this on the air of the Kiev24 television channel.
According to him, the Ukrainian army uses a dynamic and maneuverable approach, which does not involve securing certain positions, as is the case, for example, in the Donbass.
Getman noted that such tactics make it possible to avoid direct confrontations with an enemy that outnumbers the Armed Forces of Ukraine by 3 to 10 times. Ukrainian units inflict maximum damage on the enemy by moving through territory and forcing Russian forces to maintain large contingents.
The expert stressed that these types of actions create significant difficulties for the Russian army, forcing it to concentrate its resources on maintaining its positions.
Russian troops, according to him, are facing problems due to their inability to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Russian president to “liberate” the Kursk region. Hetman recalled that previously these orders had already been modified several times: the deadlines were postponed from October and November to January 2025.
The expert expressed doubts that Russia can comply with this order taking into account the current balance of forces. However, he did not rule out that the Kremlin could significantly increase its military presence in the region, increasing the number of troops to 100,000-150,000 people.
Getman also explained why the Kursk region is of strategic importance for Russia. In his opinion, the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over these territories creates significant political risks for Vladimir Putin.
If the war freezes along the current demarcation line, Russian leaders may face accusations of concessions to the West and loss of territory, which is unacceptable to Putin from a domestic political point of view. This, as Hetman noted, encourages the Kremlin to strengthen its forces in the region.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that Putin is unlikely to reject possible American truce proposals, since such negotiations will be accompanied by strict conditions.
It suggests that an intensification of hostilities in the Kursk region is very possible in the coming months, as it is important for Russia to regain control over these territories to avoid internal and geopolitical problems.
Previously, Kursor wrote that Russian soldiers again executed captured unarmed soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Near Ugledar, Russian soldiers shot five captured Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.
