The city of chivaone of the most affected by DANA which devastated the province of Valencia, urgently requested help have drinking water and repair an electrical fault that affects the population and the food of neighbors. Three days have passed and help has still not arrived. A critical situation denounced by neighbors in order to return to normal and continue the search for the missing.
What is the solution? Well, shovels, buckets and local heavy machinery. Solidarity and work to try to rebuild the region are the only thing Chiva has. However, Ground Zero remains in very poor condition, filled with mud and debris. In statements to laSexta, a couple from the city, saved because they lived on the second floor, explained that they lived everything as if it were a “tsunami, as if they were on a boat”.
“It was horrible, it was horrible, there are no words. That night was… I still can’t believe what we’re seeing. and live everyone. Thank you to the neighbors who come to help us”, explained Mari. She also stressed that it is the neighbors who face the situation, since Chiva is without water, without electricity and until this Friday, they did not have blanket.
Manolo, Mari’s husband, is one of the neighbors trying to remove debris and mud from the municipality. He himself stated that he was in a basement “take everything I can from my farm” and he thanked the number of volunteers, especially young people, from other neighboring towns who came to help Chiva.
On the other hand, they also emphasized that what was experienced in the municipality was “very strong” and that these are images that remain incredible: “The images that we saw are very strong, but what we live here, it was the end of the world. A horror. “I have balconies on both sides and on one street you would see 20 cars and on the other a sea of water.”
A situation that not only affects them physically, but also affects them psychologically. “The day after people’s faces were upset. We couldn’t believe it, but we still can’t believe what exists,” Mari emphasized, while Manolo declared that “it’s the end of the world.”
