Amazon Prime has become one of the most popular subscription services in Spain, offering a wide range of benefits that go beyond shipping products. It’s obvious that Amazon Prime includes many services, but truth be told, I realized that I was paying for a subscription that I didn’t need. I haven’t paid the annual subscription for two years and it’s something I don’t regret.
Why Amazon Prime is interesting
Obviously shipping at no extra cost is a clear benefit, but in my case I reached a point where I realized that I had a big expense that I could save. For one order per month, if I did it, it didn’t suit me.
One of the attractions is Amazon Prime Video, a platform that has increased in quantity of content and offers quality. But I already have YouTube Premium and I don’t want to keep two subscriptions at the same time. Especially because My time to lie back and enjoy a movie, let alone a series, is pretty limited. Or quite simply, after working behind a screen, I don’t feel like my free time is anything else and bigger. Additionally, since April of this year, Amazon Prime Video has been running ads, and removing them is an additional charge.
I admit that Amazon’s music service is not for me. I can’t stand ads, yesI’ve been with Apple Music for years and, previously, Spotify. But the truth is that for those who want to have a good selection of musical themes, it’s not bad.
But Amazon Prime includes many services like Photos or early access to offers. It’s a very juicy subscription and whoever takes advantage of it will get a lot out of it.
Amazon Prime prices in 2024
The basic Amazon Prime plan with advertising fees 4.99 euros per month or 49.90 euros per year. If you choose to remove advertisements, the monthly price rises to 6.98 euros. Compared to other streaming platforms, Amazon Prime remains a competitive option, especially considering the additional benefits it offers.
When is it worth it?
In my experience, Amazon Prime It’s worth it when you’re really going to benefit from the majority of its services. I realized that wasn’t my case. I placed few orders per month, I already had other streaming and music platforms, and my free time to enjoy audiovisual content was just enough.
The truth is that after you unsubscribe, I haven’t noticed a big difference in my everyday life. Yes, sometimes I have to wait a little longer for an order or pay shipping, but overall I save money and I don’t miss the service.
For me the key is Be honest with yourself about your spending habits. If you frequently shop on Amazon, enjoy watching series and movies on Prime Video, and enjoy other services like Prime Music or Reading, then yes, it will probably pay off for you.
But if, as in my case, you realize that you are paying for services that you barely use, Maybe it’s time to think again. I’ve been without Amazon Prime for two years and I don’t regret it at all. I have learned to be more selective in my online purchases and to value the time I spend in front of screens more.
My advice would be for everyone to do their own calculations. Add the cost of the annual subscription and Compare it with what you would spend on shipping if you didn’t have it. Think about how much you actually use Prime Video and other services. If bills aren’t working out, maybe it’s time to say goodbye to Amazon Prime, like I did.
This is not to say that Amazon Prime is bad, far from it. This is a great service for those who take advantage of it. But in my case, I discovered that I could live perfectly without it, I already had it by inertia and in doing so, saving money that I can now use for other things I value more. Ultimately, it’s about making conscious decisions about our consumption and free time.
