The first day of the Ok Dinghy European Championship, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, took place inplace today due to lack of wind. The race committee raised the delta flag after the anemometer recorded an intensity of seven knots in the Bay of Palma. However, when the boats reached the starting line, the wind dropped below five knotswhich made it impossible to start the competition.
The organization has decided to bring forward the start of the day tomorrow, Thursday, at 11 a.m.one hour ahead of schedule, in order to recover the races canceled today and try to respect the regatta program, which extends until next Sunday.
The Ok Dinghy European Championship has the participation of 84 crew members from 14 countries. It is the first time that Spain has hosted a continental event of this class after it was held in Mallorca four years ago, led by shipbuilder Javier Estarellas and sailor Luis Portella, both members of the Real Club Náutico de Palma .
Before the start of tomorrow, A minute of silence will be observed in memory of the victims of DANA in the Valencian Community and other regions of Spain. The Real Club Náutico de Palma published a statement this afternoon on its social networks in which it offers its condolences to the families and friends of those who died due to a tragedy that shocked the entire country.
