US President Joe Biden’s administration is looking for a way to urgently send Ukraine a final aid package worth more than six billion dollars before the return of Donald Trump, who declared victory in the elections, to the White House, reports Politico newspaper.
“The Biden administration plans to accelerate the last of more than $6 billion in security aid to Ukraine before Inauguration Day, as the outgoing team prepares to cut off weapons shipments when President-elect Donald Trump assume office.” — writes the publication, citing two Biden administration officials.
Of the remaining aid to Ukraine, $2.1 billion is earmarked for new defense orders from U.S. contractors, and another $4.3 billion is earmarked for removing existing weapons from arsenals, according to Politico. At the same time, the publication notes that weapons deliveries usually take months, so if the Biden team announces new aid in the near future, it may not reach kyiv in full before Trump returns to the House White.
