US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and owner of Platform X (formerly Twitter), to lead a new advisory group aimed at improving government efficiency. The new structure, called the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), will become a kind of headquarters for reforms aimed at reducing federal spending and simplifying bureaucratic procedures.
Musk, a strong supporter of Trump’s campaign, has reportedly contributed more than $100 million to the Republican and has repeatedly used his X platform to promote his candidacy. His ally in the new initiative will be businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. The name of the department, as Trump noted, is not only a serious project, but also an ironic reference to the popular Internet meme and cryptocurrency Dogecoin, with which Musk is closely associated.
“These two outstanding Americans will help me fight government bureaucracy, simplify regulations and reduce unnecessary costs,” Trump said. Musk and Ramaswamy will have to propose a strategy to restructure federal agencies and optimize resources.
Musk, in turn, said on Platform X that the results of the department’s activities will be open to the public. He promised that all information would be available online, including “a ranking of the most ridiculous expenditures of budget funds.” Musk said it would be a “both sad and very exciting” showcase of government spending.
