JAKARTA – Maki Takubo, the mayor of the city, the prefecture of Shizuoki, Japan resigned after he allegedly lied and falsified his academic notes. Tako said that he would allow prosecutors to investigate his diploma and annual books.

At a press conference on Monday (7/7/2025), Tokubo emphasized that his exile from the University of Toyo was confirmed by a campus, where he initially claimed that he had finished. Tokubo said that he would convey what he said as a diploma and annual book to the prosecutor before resigning within 10-14 days.
“Even if I say (diploma) is authentic, these are only words without convincing evidence. Therefore, in my opinion, it is better to ask the prosecutor to draw a conclusion, ”said Tako, as reported, they said Japan TimesField
Tako said that he would return to run for the mayor’s position after resigning.
Who is Takubo Maki?
Before being elected mayor, Maki Takubo was a former member of the City Council and was elected mayor in May 2025.
At a session of the plenary council, held on June 25, a member of the parliament, who received a copy of the graduation year of the University of Toyo, where Tako claimed that he received his title, said that the name Takubo was not indicated in it.
After the claim appeared, on July 2, Tako admitted that he was expelled from the Toyo University. Despite the fact that he admitted that he had lied about his academic records, he claimed that he did not violate the law on elections to public positions.
