Experts warn that China continues to escalate its aggression against Taiwan, while actively demonstrating its desire to mediate in international conflicts, including those in the Middle East and Ukraine. However, behind this desire for “peacekeeping” lie deeper ambitions aimed at undermining Western dominance and establishing a new world order in which Beijing seeks to become the leading world power by 2049, displacing the United States.
The publication Welt indicates that China is increasingly assuming the role of peace mediator. In September, at the UN General Assembly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presented a “peace initiative” for Ukraine, which was supported by countries such as Brazil and Switzerland.
However, analysts stress that the Chinese proposal is not neutral, as it lacks important provisions on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian troops, included in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan.
The material also emphasizes that relations between China and Russia go beyond economic cooperation and are built on the basis of “deep friendship.” This raises questions about the sincerity of Beijing’s peace efforts, especially in light of its increasingly aggressive policies toward Taiwan. Analysts are convinced that for China mediation in international conflicts is just a way to strengthen its geopolitical position.
Furthermore, Beijing is actively promoting the creation of new international structures that could undermine the influence of traditional organizations such as NATO and the UN and therefore weaken Western hegemony. At the BRICS summit in South Africa, China, together with the Russian Federation, spoke in favor of expanding the alliance, proposing to include six more countries that do not belong to the Western world.
Hong Kong professor Steve Tsang, in an interview with WELT, noted that many non-democratic states perceive the liberal international order established after World War II as an instrument created by and controlled by the West solely for their own interests. In this context, he said, China sees its task as gradually replacing this order with a new one, in which Beijing will play a leading role.
