Why is water drying up on Mars? – Oku.az

American scientists from Boston University have discovered that water continues to evaporate from the Martian atmosphere into space.

Oku.Az According to gazeta.ru, despite the dry surface, there is still a large amount of water in the depths of Mars.

According to calculations, the water on the red planet could potentially cover its surface with an ocean one to two kilometers deep.

Water is stored as ice in the polar ice caps of Mars. During the summer on the planet, the ice evaporates into the atmosphere in the form of water vapor.

Most water vapor moves from pole to pole. But some water falls into the upper atmosphere, where ultraviolet light from the sun breaks water molecules into atoms and is carried by the wind into space.
