Why NATO is ignoring Russian drones: expert analysis

Royal Danish Defence College military analyst Anders Nielsen has released a new video explaining in detail why NATO is failing to respond to violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones.

The analyst’s main points are as follows:

  • In recent months, there have been many strange incidents in European countries: arson, sabotage, cyberattacks, assassinations and murders. In addition, Russian drones have increasingly crossed the borders of NATO countries such as Poland, Latvia and Romania. However, the response from Western governments remains minimal. One example is the incident in which Romania allowed the Shahed drone to cross its airspace and attack Ukraine, despite the possibility of intercepting it.
  • According to Nielsen, the lack of response is part of NATO’s deliberate policy. Russia is trying to achieve a media effect by forcing Western countries to talk about these incidents, in order to create tension and divert resources from aid to Ukraine.
  • Ignoring these violations helps NATO neutralize Russian attempts to sow fear and divide Europe. So far, this strategy has been successful, as there has been no demand among European countries to reduce aid to Ukraine in favor of their own security. However, if Russia steps up its attacks, this strategy may no longer be effective.

Earlier, Kursor reported that NATO could fail Ukraine in the winter. Therefore, the alliance should seriously consider extending and increasing military assistance to Ukraine before the long winter months begin, so as not to disappoint Kiev and damage its reputation.
