Kaya Kallas said that among the member states there is “wide support” to expand the EU mission to train Ukrainian soldiers in the war of war after a ceasefire, Kai Callas said.
The high representative of the EU told reporters after a meeting of the ministers of the protection of blocks in Copenhagen, Denmark that he “welcomes” this wide support to extend the mandate of the EU military assistance in support of the decoration. About 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers were trained in various places throughout Europe by the EU armed forces since it began in November 2022.
The change in the mandate of the mission, which includes 24 states, eU and Norway, will require unanimity between member states.
Nevertheless, Callas revealed a gap into thoughts between the capitals, with some in favor of expanding after a ceasefire or a truce between Ukraine and Russia, while others would prefer to update the mission so that the two oppositions entered into force.
Kallas argued that the mission of European military coaches in Ukraine will become one of the security guarantees that the EU can provide to Ukraine in the event of a truce.
Discussions about these guarantees are currently held mainly in the context of the coalition of those who wish, in which about 30, mainly European countries, work together to write down what they will be ready to provide Ukraine in the short -term and long -term perspective in order to prevent further aggression.
Kyiv considers its properties to NATO and the EU as absolute security guarantees, but also calls for continuous supply of military equipment, training data and information to strengthen its armed forces.
European allies, led by France and Great Britain, also work on the creation of “guarantees for force”, with the help of which some European troops will develop in non -contact areas throughout Ukraine.
Several countries that are reluctant to participate in this soothing force said that they would need participation in this initiative.
Donald Trump blocked American troops on Earth, but told the European leaders who visited him in Washington at the beginning of this month that he will be ready to provide the so -called backing stopes, such as air coating and missiles and additional information.
“The Americans were very clear that Europeans should lead,” Kallas said. “So, we must again show how we take responsibility for some things, and education was done in Europe, and we are ready to do it on Ukrainian land as soon as a truce appears.”
“This is also an argument for our friends who say that a truce is important, the world is important, but it can be fair and constant only if there are reliable guarantees of security, and one of the details of reliable security guarantees is EU training, a military mission and a political mission,” he added.
The ministers gathered in the Danish capital also discussed how to increase the defense of Ukraine and fill the EU military gaps.
The EU determined nine priority areas for protective investments, including air defense and unmanned aircraft, and one proposed one Loan plan 150 billion euros For joint supply of some equipment faster and at a lower price.
Member states strive to determine which of them will take on the role of a “leading nation” for each of these areas of priority and agree on contracts by the end of October.
