Will more than 1,500 schools be closed? – MINISTER’S REACTION

“The reports about the closure of 1,500 schools in recent days do not reflect the truth.”

Oku.Az reports that the Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, published information about this on his official account on the social network.

The minister noted that in recent days neither the ministry nor the interested parties have commented on this issue. The spread of the news was due to a misunderstanding of what was being said on the subject.

The Ministry of Science and Education announced the following data on the subject:

Currently, less than 100 students study in 1,500 of the 4,400 schools operating in the country.

In schools with a small number of students, the annual cost per student is quite high, but the quality of teaching remains low. For example, in a school with 5 students, the annual cost for each student is 25,000 to 27,000 manats. In schools with 10 to 15 students, this figure is 13,000 to 15,000 manats, which is more than the tuition of some private schools.

To increase the quality of education and create sustainable educational opportunities, the rationalization of understaffed schools is carried out step by step.

The minister added that it is a mistake to claim that, based on these facts, 1,500 schools in the country will be closed.

“In the current school year, the costs of 142 schools with fewer than 10 students have been fundamentally rationalized. Rationalization does not only mean the closure of schools, but also measures such as changing the type of schools, merging them or opening vocational classes. no It is planned to suspend its activity,” the ministry stated.

The minister stressed that the process of rationalization of the school network is being taken into account and the educational system aims to make it more efficient and qualitative.

At the plenary session of the Milli Majlis, MP Jeyhun Mammadov announced that 1,500 of the 4,400 schools in Azerbaijan are planned to be closed.

Oku.Az reports that the Minister of Science and Education, Emil Amrullayev, clarified his views on the issue.

He pointed out that the information is not true.

“We will make an announcement on this a little later. This is a problem that arises from the problem of “not understanding what you hear or read correctly”, which I mentioned earlier. More detailed information will be presented to the public as soon as possible to clarify,” said the minister.
