The war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza have no prospects for a quick end, and in 2027, according to some forecasts, a military confrontation between China and Taiwan could begin. The situation in the world continues to heat up and a decisive outcome is unlikely to be achieved quickly.
This was stated in an interview for Radio NV by Yaroslav Gritsak, historian and professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
“If we take into account that this is a long war (I don’t want to say this, but we have to do it, we have to do it, because we assume it), then this is a decade of wars; so now we’re at some kind of good middle ground. If Trump enters this war as president during a war, I don’t know if it will end when he leaves office. This does not have to be a war in Ukraine; it could be some other time,” Gritsak said.
According to him, the situation is increasingly difficult. It is unlikely that anything can lead to quick results now. There will be a change, it may be decisive, but it is unlikely to lead to quick results,” the expert noted.
The media reports on different possible options for Trump to end the war in Ukraine. According to one of them, Ukraine agrees not to join NATO for at least 20 years, in exchange for continuing to supply weapons from the United States. This plan supposedly also includes retaining for Russia about 20% of the Ukrainian territories captured during the aggression.
Another plan involves freezing the conflict on the current front lines and forcing Ukraine into neutrality, without offering it clear security guarantees. At the same time, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo proposed increasing support for Ukraine as a way to contain Russia and leave open the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO.
But in the end everything will depend on the plan Trump chooses. As Bloomberg reported on Nov. 7, he said he would not insist on making concessions to Ukraine without any benefits for kyiv.
