The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Saturday the sending of 5,000 additional soldiers and the deployment of another 5,000 national police and civil guards in the Valencian Community to join the search and rescue efforts for the victims.
Sánchez celebrated that the President of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, decided to increase his request from 500 to 5,000 soldiers and reiterated that the government would proceed “immediately“to this expedition and insisted that”If you need more resources, ask for them.“.
“There is no need to prioritize certain municipalities over others or prioritize tasks. Priority is given when there is a lack of resources and this is not the case.. This doesn’t have to happen. The Valencian Community therefore needs more personnel, machines, financing or technical advice. “Just ask and we will provide it as we do immediately.”
This Saturday, 4,000 additional soldiers will arrive in the region and, as of tomorrow morning, the remaining 1,000 will arrive, for a total of 5,000, which will be added to the 2,500 already stationed on the ground.
In addition, the Government will deploy 5,000 national police and civil guards, which will reach 10,000 soldiers from both forces, to guarantee security in the streets after the ongoing looting and for which 82 people have been arrested.
