CaixaBank Headquarters In Pamplona was the scene this Friday of the presentation of the San Fermín Txikito Ball Tournamentthat will start on Tuesday, September 17 in its 52nd edition.
The Labrit pediment, the “bombonera”, of the Navarrese capital will be the scene of a tournament that arouses greater interest every year, on certain dates with the Old Town Festivals in progress.
To the specialties of A leather paddle and a short blade will be added to the women’s rubber paddle this year. with the participation of six paddlers, such as Uxue Murillo and María Eguzkiza from Navarra, Leire Galdós and Amaia Irazustabarrena from Gipuzkoa and Laura Sáez and Irati Ruiz de Azua from Alava.
They join a call for 26 pelotaris from the Navarrese and world elite who will participate in the four qualifying rounds (qualifications, semi-finals and finals) which will take place from September 17 to 20 at the Labrit fronton in Pamplona.
In total, around twenty paddlers, ten with leather paddle and ten with short paddle, of international stature and young talents from the Navarrese quarry will aspire to the txapela and the statuette of San Fermín.
Among the candidates for the title are: the Navarrese Daniel Berrogui, Isaak Ciáurriz, Iñigo Eslava, Marcos Pérez, Julen Mendizabal, Ibai Barón, Iñaki Mariñelarena, recent tournament champions Javier Labiano and Rubén Ayarra, as well as recent under-22 world champions Telmo Charro and Iker Aramendia.
The native of Castellano-León was also invited to the tournament Carlos Baeza, the Biscayan Imanol Ibáñez, the French Sylvain Brefel, Justin Dardenne, Lucas Hourcourigaray and Valentin Cambos; in addition to the Argentines residing in Spain Agustín Maldonado and Emiliano Skufca, who returns to the tournament after a few years of absence.
