Workshops, conferences and a quantum room to disseminate science

Today, from 10:30 a.m., the second day of the European Researchers’ Night is celebrated in Madrid, the macro-event where 30 practical activities are offered to learn and apply science, with the help of 50 institutions. The proposal from the National Museum of Natural Sciences stands out: “A quantum room”, a workshop which explains in a literary and imaginative way the complex laws of quantum physics.

There is also the activity called “Supertren de las 3Rs”, a dynamic designed by the Madrid Railway Museum which consists of explaining, with large models and parts extracted from trains, how the logic of the circular economy works. integrated into the Spanish railways. In addition, the benefits of the “3Rs” will be demonstrated: reuse, reduce and recycle. Everything from a participatory approach and nothing like an opening speech.

World – and Madrid – science has always suffered from an imbalance between what it manages to discover and what it manages to teach. Empirical evidence is not convincing in itself, and this is where the crucial role of pedagogy comes into play. This is the objective which motivates this twelfth European Researchers’ Night, celebrated in 400 cities the same weekend. More than a hundred activities have already been carried out yesterday in the capital and, adding today’s sessions, it is estimated that 700 professionals and 20,000 citizens participated.

The only thing necessary to attend any of the proposals is prior registration on the website of the event, whose meetings are not limited to the center of Madrid. At the Carlos III University of Leganés there will be a guided tour of the Biomedicine and Robotics Laboratory, where interested people will be able to use 3D printers to create, with the permanent help of experts, intelligent materials aimed at improving the circulation of cells in the human body.

Finally, the workshop organized at the European University of Madrid deserves to be highlighted. The aim is to create a model that represents a megacity on a planetary scale with drones and Generative Artificial Intelligence techniques. For those who cannot attend the meeting, an online broadcast will be available.
