World Chess Olympiad: Azerbaijani teams face Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan’s men’s and women’s national teams faced Kazakhstan at the 45th World Chess Olympiad in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.

Oku.Az reports that both matches took place in the seventh round.

The men’s team achieved their fifth victory in the competition with a score of 3:1.

Aydin Süleymanli – Denis Makhnev 1:0

Nijat Abasov – Kazybek Nogerbek 0.5:0.5

Rauf Mammadov – Alisher Suleymanov 0.5:0.5

Muhammad Muradli – Ramazan Jalmakhanov 1:0

The women’s team suffered its first defeat at the Olympic Games, losing to its rival by the same score.

Gunay Mammadzade – Bibisara Assaubayeva 0.5:0.5

Ulviya Fataliyeva – Meruert Kamalidenova 0:1

Govhar Beidullayeva – Ksenia Balabayeva 0.5:0.5

It should be noted that our chess players previously defeated Montenegro (3:1), Jordan (3.5:0.5), Finland (3.5:0.5), Moldova (3:1), India (1:3) and lost to Lithuania (1.5:2.5). Our women’s team defeated Slovenia (3:1), Nicaragua (4:0), Australia (3:1) and Vietnam (2.5:1.5) and drew with Argentina and Ukraine 2:2.

The women’s team is in 10th place with 10 points after 6 rounds. India leads by 12 points. Georgia and Poland have 11 points each. Previously, the team beat Slovenia (3-1), Nicaragua (4-0), Australia (3-1) and Vietnam (2.5-1.5), drew with Argentina and Ukraine 2-2.

The men’s team is ranked 22nd with 8 points. The team defeated Montenegro (3-1), Jordan (3.5-0.5), Finland (3.5-0.5) and Moldova (3-1), India (1-3) and Lithuania (1.5-2.5) and lost. Here too, India is the leader with 12 points. China and Vietnam have 11 points each.

The men’s team captained by Teymur Rajabov included Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Nijat Abasov, Aydin Suleymanli and Muhammad Muradli.

The women’s team, captained by Mikhail Shereshevsky, consists of Gunay Mammadzade, Govhar Beidullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Ulviyya Fataliyeva and Gulnar Mammadova.
