Many people are used to storing leftovers by wrapping them in aluminum foil. However, this storage method can pose serious health risks.
Oku.AzAccording to information reported by “Daily Mail”, Zachary Cartwright, a biochemist and food safety expert from the United States, warned about this.
According to him, aluminum foil, unlike airtight containers, does not provide the airtightness necessary to prevent the growth of dangerous bacteria.
“Airtight containers with lids are designed to limit food contact with oxygen. Oxygen “S. aureus” (staphylococcus) and important for the reproduction of the most dangerous pathogens, including “Bacillus cereus”, “Clostridium botulinum” and “Listeria monocytogenes”. These microorganisms produce toxins that cause the symptoms of food poisoning: fever, vomiting, pain abdominal and Diarrhea “Clostridium botulinum” and “Listeria monocytogenes” are the most dangerous, because their poison of biological origin causes paralysis of respiratory muscles and listeriosis (lymphoid tissue and nervous system).
According to Cartwright, unlike plastic containers and plastic wrap, aluminum foil cannot insulate food from the outside environment.
“In addition, the aluminum from which it is made can react with acidic and salty products and pass into food residues, for example, bitter tomato sauce. Frequent exposure to aluminum in the body is associated with neurotoxic developmental disorders, as well as as with damage to health to the kidneys, liver and bones,” said the expert.
