The weekend ends in La Rioja with a serious accident on the AP-68 highway, near La Grajera. As Rioja2 reports this Sunday evening, a head-on collision occurred between two cars and a truck. Three people were seriously injured and taken to San Pedro Hospital where one of them, a woman, eventually died.
As indicated by the Government Delegation, the driver tested positive for alcohol as well as an initial drug test which must be confirmed by a laboratory test. This Monday morning he was arrested and is in the Civil Guard, waiting to be brought to justice.
The three injured, the woman in very serious condition and two men in serious condition, had to be released from prison and were transferred to San Pedro hospital. Subsequently, the woman, a 35-year-old Logroño resident who was heavily pregnant, died, along with the baby she was carrying.
Work is currently underway to investigate the causes of the accident. The first official data indicates that the vehicle traveled at least ten kilometers in the opposite direction and could have left via an exit before the scene of the accident. This car was traveling with only the driver and in the one that was hit, the deceased woman was traveling as a co-driver and the driver is injured.
The accident occurred yesterday Sunday shortly before 10 p.m. Several people alerted SOS Rioja to the head-on collision of two cars on this highway. The Logroño Fire Department, Civil Guard, emergency resources from the Rio Health Service and AP-68 checkpoints went to the scene of the accident.
