Donald Trump is considering a draft executive order that would establish a “war council” aimed at examining and potentially purging three- and four-star generals in the US military. The Wall Street Journal writes about this, citing the draft document.
If Donald Trump approves the order, it could accelerate the firing of generals and admirals who “do not possess the necessary leadership qualities.” But it could also have a chilling effect on high-ranking military officers, given the president-elect’s past promise to fire “woke generals” — that is, officers seen as “promoting diversity in the ranks at the expense of combat readiness” (general with greater focus on “Social, Racial and Gender Justice Issues.” EADaily).
The “military council” is supposed to consist of retired generals and ordinary officers who will send their recommendations to the president. Those who choose to be removed will be removed at their current rank within 30 days.
