“60,000 signatures were collected instead of the 50,000 necessary for holding the referendum on Armenia’s accession to the European Union. The signature collection headquarters “Eurovote” of Armenia published information about this on its “Facebook” page.
“Armenia wants to become a member of the European Union, but this is a very long procedure and requires reforms in many areas, as well as conflicts with other economic associations of which Armenia is a member.”
This Oku.Azin his statement to the deputy of the Milli Majlis Parvana Valiyeva saying.
According to him, being represented in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) created by Russia, Armenia benefits from all the opportunities and concessions offered by this institution:
“Irevan is free of customs duties and taxes on exports within the EU. Armenia wants to take advantage of the concessions provided by the Eurasian Union created by Russia and benefit from the financial and economic opportunities of this organization by becoming a member of the European Union Currently, Armenia receives EU funding and technology in several directions. However, the main market for Armenia is Russia, in other words, the agricultural products it produces and exports are mainly sold in Russian markets, not in Western Europe. The standard of the products manufactured is not suitable for the EU.”
“The Armenian government believes that, in terms of economic security, the EU can play the role of guarantor of its future. Yerevan sees integration with the West as a priority in foreign policy and considers it its guarantor. After the events in Georgia “Armenia will try to become the main point of support for the West in the region. This, at the same time, will be accompanied by new concessions and help from the West,” the deputy added.
