The Minister of Labor and Second Vice President, Yolanda Díaz, announced a work permit paid at 100% of salary for workers affected by DANA who cannot go to their workplace due to caring for members of their family, mobility problems or connectivity difficulties for teleworking.
In the declarations to TVE timeDíaz assured that the workers who receive this aid They will not have to recover the days worked: “They are not recoverable (…) They are not going to have to recover on those days. They simply have to have a cause. The causes are multiple.”
This authorization will not have a fixed duration and it could be extended as long as necessary: ”We have decided to set an indefinite date, because the causes are very different. We are therefore not going to set a deadline, except only in the case of death leave”, which we extend to five days from the day of the funeral. This is the only period that we will integrate. The rest of the permits, i.e. justified absences from work, will be indefinite.
Díaz announced that workers will not only receive 100% of their salary, but also will maintain their social security contributions with paid leave: “Their salary and contributions will be fully maintained.”
The Minister of Labor promised that during the time of collection of this permit, the maintenance of employment will be ensured “We complete the nullity of the decisions which are taken”. For example, Díaz pointed out, the case where a company decides to terminate the worker’s contract in the event of justified absence from work.
In fact, Díaz sent a message to businesses: “It’s about maintaining jobs, not firing someone.”
