The accusation made by a Vox councilor against a councilor of foreign origin from Más Madrid, which took place last Monday during a Madrid City Hall committee, continued in the form of racist and sexist comments on the social networks. Plus Madrid denounced this Friday the campaign of hatred suffered by its advisor Carolina Elías since Ignacio Ansaldo criticized her for her Salvadoran origin and that she was collecting “from all Spaniards”.
In a letter sent by Rita Maestre to the mayor and other municipal government officials, the opposition spokesperson insists that these behaviors have an appropriate institutional response “that demonstrates commitment to the defense of equality , respect for the diversity and dignity of all members of the Corporation. .”
“In response, we have witnessed in these days a campaign of hatred, racism and machismo orchestrated by the far right on social networks,” says Maestre after his party called for Ansaldo’s resignation over his xenophobic comments. “I demand that the mayor unequivocally express his support for Carolina Elías. And put a firewall against the disrespect of the far right,” he added.
Councilor Carolina Elías herself shared some of the comments she received on her X profile. “You are an orangutan”, “throw her into the sea” or even “a talking monkey” are just some of the racist sentences that were dedicated to him before his video in which he denounced the comments of his Vox counterpart.
“They’re not going to scare me. I am Salvadoran, Spanish and city councilor of Madrid. Ideas for a freer and fairer life are worth it,” Elías herself warns in response to the insults received.
Más Madrid filed a formal complaint regarding these events to the president of the commission in which Ansaldo participated, PP councilor Jaime Taboada. For the moment, Madrid City Hall has not issued any reaction.
