You would think that the DANA in Valencia would cover many denialist mouths and make us aware of the climate crisis. None of this: to our great surprise, DANA has become a standard of climate denialism. The conspiratorial worldview as a form of security in times of confusion
Does Valencia’s DANA destroyer have anything to do with climate change? This may be so, but for now we only have guesses, experts disagree, and there are no historical records to compare. Plus, what they now call DANA is the “cold straw” of a lifetime. That there were no torrential rains, floods, floods and deaths in the Levant? And much worse! The problem in Valencia is not the still-debated climate change, but rather the fight against climate change: the well-intentioned but sometimes disastrous efforts of environmentalists, scientists and progressive politicians to combat so-called climate change. It is their environmental policies that have aggravated the damage caused by DANA: the demolition of dams, the renaturalization of rivers, the vegetation that they do not allow to be removed, the reeds that block everything. But if you say it, they call you a denier. You are also called a Francoist if you recognize something obvious: that Franco saved Valencia from this DANA by diverting the Turia through another channel. The problem is not climate change, which does not exist either, but climate fundamentalism, the 2030 Agenda which responds to political and economic interests and which uses the hoax of climate change to restrict freedoms and establish a new world order. Without excluding that an atmospheric weapon capable of generating gigantic storms intervened in Valencia, behind which Morocco, and even Israel, could find themselves, to punish the pro-Palestinian policy of the Spanish government, which would ultimately be responsible for more than 220 dead.
The previous paragraph is like a staircase that begins in doubt and ends in delirium. At what stage did you stop, where did you feel uncomfortable, in what phrase did you begin to suspect that I had become angry or was making fun of you? There will be those who will stop already at the second line, and those who will continue reading without problems until the middle of the paragraph, and some readers will even be able to reach the basement with a firm step. The problem is that denial, more than a ladder, is like a slide. You drop, you pick up speed, you can’t stop, and you end up embracing the plot. Because he does not fall alone, he is very accompanied, and in his descent he is encouraged by social networks, pseudo-media, sometimes also traditional media, and parties with parliamentary representation. Even the president of the world’s leading power happily goes down the slide followed by his tens of millions of voters!
You would think that the terrible DANA of Valencia, unprovoked but intensified by climate change, would cover many denialist mouths and raise awareness among the population of the urgency of action. None of this: to our surprise, DANA further fueled the denial. As is the case with delusional people, conspiracy theorists validate their beliefs with a fact and its opposite, everything is permitted, everything adds up, everything confirms their vision of the world. And DANA is the best proof of this, since it has become the standard of climate denialism. Emilio Santiago, from CSIC, declared this during an information session organized last week by the Scientific Media Center Spain: “Far from experiencing an educational shock that would have placed climate change at the center of the debate, we witnessed to the birth of conspiracy denialism in Spain, which was a fairly residual phenomenon.
Climate denial saw its opportunity in DANA. Nowadays, he is not only hyperactive, but also uses the shock and pain of an entire country and turns it into hatred towards scientists, environmentalists and progressive politicians, the triad of evil. The hoaxes that have been circulating these days point directly to those who have been fighting for the climate for so many years. Starting with scientists, including AEMET, who have become the target of denialists, even with threats, as denounced by Fernando Valladares. Since climate denialism is also inseparable from the rise of the far right and its contagion to the traditional right, it takes advantage of the open window to include migrants, NGOs or taxes in the mix, which add up to make the cause, and now they are also taking a long time to introduce feminism.
We can laugh at their stupidities, but little pleasure. It’s very easy to fall into the first paragraph slide. The social unrest and uncertainty that have accompanied us for years encourage us to let ourselves go, we have already seen this with the pandemic. Denial, the conspiratorial vision of the world in which everything fits and where everything finds an explanation, however crazy it may be, appears to be a form of security in times of confusion. Even if it seems different, you sleep better at night after watching Iker Jiménez’s program.
