“This mission is more necessary than ever. Your intermediation in the work for peace, this important word and it is you, the Spanish military, who are doing the most to achieve it. Every day you give us civilians an example of commitment and an example of delivery”, he said during the event which took place at the air base of Torrejon.
The minister acknowledged that it is a day of “mixed emotions” as soldiers say goodbye to their families, but at the same time praised the “deep pride» by these professionals.
“Where there is a Spanish soldier, there is efficiency, there is commitment, there are values and above all a lot of dedication. And this is what you are going to do now in Lebanon, as part of a mission more important than ever, to act as intermediaries for peace in this difficult and conflictual area,” he said.
Robles thanked the military for their commitment to maintaining peace and security, at a time when the region is going through a period of turbulence due to fighting between Israel And Hezbollah. The minister highlighted the “essential” work carried out by the contingents, both to defuse the conflict and to help the civilian population. “Today, more than ever, you carry the flag of Spain“, he stressed.
The rotation that traveled this Sunday is the second of three that will make up the Spanish deployment, made up of some 600 soldiers commanded by the general of the Fernando Ruiz Gómez Brigade, which will take over from the “Aragon” Brigade, after returning to Spain after spending just over six months in the country.
