The Civil Guard, within the framework of Operation “Karora”, arrested a man of Spanish nationality accused of being the author of thirteen forest fires caused since 2019 in the Alicante towns of Biar, Beneixama and Banyeres de Mariola. The accused was placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Villena.
Agents from the Civil Guard Investigation Zone of Villena have begun to conduct an in-depth investigation into the events following a forest fire that occurred on July 30, 2024 in the town of BiarThe fire covered 2.3 hectares and was located very close to a youth hostel in the area.
After initial investigations, once the relevant evidence had been analysed, investigators managed to identify a vehicle that entered the scene of the fire a few minutes before the fire started and remained there for less than two minutes.
Subsequent investigations identified the owner of the vehicle, a resident of the area, who was also linked to another forest fire that occurred on August 5, 2024 on the CV-803 highway, in Mariola BanyèresOn this occasion, thanks to the collaboration of the Local Police of Biar, he was identified near the fire, and after searching his vehicle, flammable products, gloves, matches and other materials to start a fire were found.
Throughout the investigation, thanks to the collaboration of citizens and reports from forestry agents and local police, the relationship of the detainee with other fires that occurred in the area since 2019 was confirmed. In particular, his presence could be confirmed in a fire that occurred on July 13, 2019 in the Biar Sanctuary.
After gathering enough evidence, the Civil Guard carried out a search of the suspect’s home, where they found a large quantity of flammable productselectronic devices with recordings of various fires and other objects used to start fires.
The prisoner, a 28-year-old Spaniard, accused of thirteen crimes of forest fire, was placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Villena, which ordered his release. freedom with the imposition of precautionary measures.
