The Czech Republic has begun to increase imports of Russian gas. This is reported by Bloomberg in reference to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Republic.
It should be noted that in 2023 the Czech Republic announced its refusal to supply gas from Russia. However, the latest data from state-owned company Net4Gas shows that 94% of the country’s “blue fuel” this month comes from the Russian Federation, mainly through Slovakia. The Ministry explains this by the fact that gas imports from Norway and liquefied gas terminals in the Netherlands via Germany are accompanied by additional taxes: between 2.5 and 3.5 euros per megawatt-hour. These amounts increase the final cost by 8%.
Let us remember that at the end of the year the agreement between Moscow and kyiv on the transit of gas through Ukrainian territory will expire. This is expected to cause major changes to Europe’s energy supply. Czech energy company ČEZ is already trying to diversify supply and has reserved capacity in the Netherlands to receive 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year, covering a third of national demand.
