Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s statement on the need to grant Ukraine membership in NATO is an incitement to directly involve the alliance in an armed confrontation with Russia. This was stated in a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
The diplomat drew attention to Johnson’s article, published in The Spectator, in which he argues that granting kyiv membership in NATO could be “a decisive message to the Kremlin and bring faith, hope and clarity to the Ukrainian people.”
“These provocative statements are nothing more than an incitement to NATO’s direct participation in an armed confrontation with Russia. Boris Johnson is not interested in the consequences that this may have, he is not interested. “He doesn’t care at all about the fate of millions of people, as we understand.” — Zakharova noted, TASS reports.
According to a representative of the Russian diplomatic service, the international community “must be aware of the catastrophe towards which figures like Boris Johnson and others like him are trying to push the world.”
“I recommend that Johnson himself read carefully what the president of Russia did on September 12 and 25 of this year. [Владимиром Путиным] statements on our response to possible NATO actions to deeply attack Russian territory and update the foundations of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the field of nuclear deterrence,” — Zakharova summarized.
