This Monday, the Zamora City Council approved the budgets for 2025, which reach the 79.3 million eurosduring a plenary session marked by the commemoration of the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, with two minutes of silence for the 42 women murdered so far this year by their partners or ex-spouses .
The budget for 2025 has been brought forward with the affirmative votes of Izquierda Unida and its government partner, the Socialist Party and with the abstentions of the advisers of the Popular Party and Vox. For their part, the Zamora Yes councilors voted against.
“These are ongoing, social and dynamic budgets, designed to improve the lives of citizens and with a focus on supporting those who need it most and building a more comfortable and liveable city ” said Treasury Advisor Diego Bernardo. to Ical.
The advisor emphasized the position intended for Social Services, with eight million euros“a figure that contrasts with the three million budgeted before 2015” and highlighted “the notable increase in state funding, compared to the underfinancing of the Junta de Castilla y León”.
Likewise, Diego Bernardo assured that the government team “will not increase taxes in 2025 of its own will.”
“The Budgets give priority to the economic development of the city with more than six million euros, half of which for the reform of the Food Market, an emblematic project pending for more than 20 years, and another important point, to boost local commerce. with Trade Bonds,” he explained.
For his part, the mayor of Zamora, Francisco Guarido, estimated that the 2025 budgets “reflect a commitment to social justice, by guaranteeing services such as home help, which is not a service for the poor , but for people who need it. ” that they need, whatever their economic level.
A “structural problem”
On the other hand, the municipal plenary session approved, with the abstention of Vox, the manifesto of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces for the commemoration of 25Nin which “it is recognized that the violence suffered by women and girls as a result of being women continues to be a structural problem that crosses borders, cultures and circumstances”, among other aspects.
It was also adopted, unanimously, the World Declaration on Children 2024, remember that children and adolescents experience acts of violence at all stages of their childhood and in their most everyday environments and, very often, from people they trust or who have a duty to educate them , to train them, raise them and protect them. The threat is even greater for girls and adolescents, people with disabilities and those living in conflict zones.
