Zaragoza will compensate residents affected by the application of the wastewater tax

The Government of Zaragoza took note today of the regularization process that the Treasury and European Funds Area has undertaken to give a temporary solution to residents of rural neighborhoods of Casetas, Garrapinillos and Villarrapa compared to those of Environmental tax on wastewater (IMAR).

This tax, entrusted to the Aragonese Water Institute, gave rise to the application of a most restrictive coefficient compared to the rest of the municipality of Zaragoza. Concretely, a coefficient of 1, or 100%, was applied to part of the populations of these rural districts of IMAR when it is claimed that the purification of their water is carried out at the Utebo station.

However, the policies of the rest of the municipality of Zaragoza have a coefficient of 0.4% when purifying their waters in the Zaragoza City Hall facilities. Over the past two years 4,822 procurement policies were affectedof which 3,951 are currently registered.

From Zaragoza City Hall to compensate neighbors of these affected rural neighborhoods approved an interim solution, so that a 76% reduction in the municipal sanitation and water purification rate. This municipal tariff breaks down into 24% for sanitation and 76% for purification. In this way, the municipal premium will eliminate the payment of the latter concept and this “double payment” will be avoided for those who have benefited from unequal treatment from the Aragonese Water Institute.

As indicated by the Zaragoza City Council, the next Ecociudad receipt, which will be issued between January and February 2025, will receive a communication in which this process and the compensation mechanism will be explained.

It is expected that a single returnwhich will likely come into force in March 2025, compared to those received from the years 2022 and 2023. In addition, throughout the year 2025, another reimbursement will be applied for the year 2024. In the case of receipts from 2025, they will already be treated with the bonus. And for those with unpaid receipts, net charges will be calculated.

The Zaragoza City Council has calculated that it will have to allocate 541,000 euros to apply this compensation corresponding to the years 2022 and 2024. The reimbursement will be made to the same bank account into which the receipts are loaded.
